Trusted Shops, an IT solution and destination marketing solution for e-commerce, has chosen Lille as the location for its office in France. The German company, headquartered in Cologne, has more than 500 employees throughout Europe. Its objective is to strengthen its position with French e-business.
A partner offering legal and tech expertise
An IFOP study noted that 88% of consumers read customer reviews before making a purchase*. This is a strategic concern for any e-commerce site and Trusted Shops has addressed this issue by developing its customer review management platform. This solution reassures consumers during their online purchasing experience and helps sellers grow their e-marketing strategy.
“Mark of Confidence” is another of the company’s flagship products. Trusted Shops awards this mark of confidence to a client after performing an in-depth review of their site. Trusted Shops provides this guarantee of transparency to clients which, in turn, increases end user confidence.
To further develop its services, Trusted Shops has its own team of legal and technical experts. The company can then assists its e-commerce partners with required legal compliance, specifically as it relates to data protection.
As the e-commerce sector continues to log record performance (+13.4% in revenue and+20.7% in recorded transactions, as compared to 2017*), Trusted Shops is a strategic partner who strengthens the trust relationship between its own clients and their end consumers.
A location at the heart of Europe’s Retail Valley
As part of its growth strategy, Trusted Shops made the decision to open a new office in the French market. Lille—a pioneer in mail order and then e-commerce—is now home to 80 retail headquarters with more than 500 employees, several of which are already Trusted Shops’ clients. This proximity is a key data point in the trust relationship that the company has with its clients. Executive Director David Chau explains:
“We are very aware of French clients’ specific expectations and Trusted Shops is opening our French office in the heart of the Lille region to be closer to key long-term accounts like Décathlon, Showroomprivé.com and La Redoute.”

Trusted Shops’ integration into the Lille region’s mature, dense retail ecosystem is also a strategic sales opportunity for the company. Used by the majority of German e-commerce sites, Trusted Shops hopes that this new office will result in an expanded portfolio of small-and medium-sized businesses within the French market.
As it took on this adventure, Trusted Shops was able to count on the network and expertise that Lille’s agency delivers. Our team and partners provided assistance to Delphine Gabet, Manager of the French office, in researching appropriate locations and recruiting her new team. Right before confinement began (due to the pandemic), a round table was organized with employment agencies where Trusted Shops could discuss the company’s human resource needs.
Today, the company has 12 employees working in downtown Lille in a space provided by Wéréso, a private and shared offices provider. This flexible, scalable solution is ideal for Trusted Shops and allows the company to expand as the team grows.
In the days to come, the company expert in e-commerce, will focus on creating a solid network of partners and resume its integration into the French market. This process was unavoidably impacted by the period of confinement. Lille’s agency and its partners—including the MEL (Métropole Européenne de Lille)—will continue the work already begun to facilitate this new player’s integration into the Lille-area’s business environment.

To fulfill the company’s goals, the Lille office keeps on recruiting onsite B2B sales staff. The main goal of these futures recruits—two of whom will be hired this summer—will be to acquire and manage a portfolio of small-and medium-sized businesses within the French market.
Laurence Baptiste-Weppler, Project Manager France, told us more about what type of talent the company is looking for:
“We are not looking for the standard sales profile, but rather for personalities with a real appetite for sales, a talent for selling, and the capacity to learn. We have noticed that junior profiles, such as those who have been trained as webmasters or in communications, are often a good fit. Trusted Shops very much values its human resources and this is very important to us; it’s why we place a great emphasis on candidates’ soft skills. Our employees must be committed and carefully follow our sales techniques. In exchange, we provide a fulfilling work environment and a simplified hierarchical structure that allows each employee the opportunity to grow.”
